Hardwood Preps Illinois Week 13 Review

The 1A/2A Playoffs are a week away. Things are starting to get interesting as the seedings are coming out for 3A/4A. As the regular reason wraps up, here are some of the places i went and the teams I saw.

  • New Trier 47 Maine South 44 OT

In an intense Central Suburban Conference matchup between New Trier and Maine South, the Trevians survive on the road in overtime. Griffin Ryan, who turned out to have the winning 3 pointer to seal the deal for NTHS led the way with 17 points. Senior point guard Andrew Kirkpatrick chipped in 11 points, knocking down some clutch shots down the stretch. The Hawks were led by Grant Miller with 12 points and Fillip Bulatvic with 11 points.

Experience: The relatively new gym at Maine South was very clean. The lighting I thought was a little dim, but it made for a great game. The lobby were the concessions and awards are displayed is small, so for a Friday Night game, it could get really crazy. Overall a nice setup at Maine South. Decent amount of parking outside the gym.

  • Oak Park-River Forest 62 York 51

A rivalry matchup between Oak Park-River Forest and York High School featured the Huskies coming out on top by a final score of 62-51. OPRF really had control from the beginning, but the Dukes kept it close throughout. Dashon Enoch dropped 20 points for the Huskies, leading all scorers. Chase Robinson (15 points) and Isaiah Fuller (10 points) also contributed in the victory. The Dukes were led by Angelo Martucci with 10 points. John Milling and Freshman Jeffery Grace added 9 points apiece.

Experience: The Field House at Oak Park-River Forest is really unique and can hold a ton of people. Sound echoes really well in the space which could make for a loud game. Nice programs were handed out at the door. Lots of the old awards are up near the west stands. Not a lot of people would know to look up there. I would love to see a packed house at OPRF’s Field House.
